Mr Nobody peut paraître prétentieux surtout à cause de sa forme très sophistiquée et son montage narratif qui n'est pas toujours facile à suivre mais au final la thématique est plutôt simple : dans la vie, il n'y a pas de bons ou mauvais choix.
"Each of these lives is the right one! Every path is the right path. Everything could have been everything else and it will have just as much meaning."
Et si vous aviez la possibilité de connaître votre futur et de faire les choix qui détermineront la vie que vous souhaitez, serez-vous plus heureux pour autant ?

Jaco Van Dormael s'amuse à explorer les différents choix de son personnage et leurs conséquences qui l'amène à vivre des "vies" complètement différentes. Tout l'enrobage autour tel que l'utilisation de la théorie des cordes, l'entropie ou les méthodes de reproduction ne sont qu'un prétexte à cette exploration.
