S3 E1 • The End Is the Beginning

The episode starts at the end, with Alex and Rex in bed. They hear a girl moaning and groaning whilst having sex (obviously with Evan) and they wait, hoping that eventually he's going to hit "the spot". Once it's over Alex gets up to go to the bathroom, but the girl gets there first, only staying there for a short shower. Alex says to Rex that the girl should have given herself a good scrub after what she'd just done. Evan is then unpacking some things into a new bedroom. He's just moved into Gabrielle's and he, Gabrielle and Kelly toast to change. "Change is as good as a change" he says. Then it skips a day earlier earlier. Evan walks into an office dressed in a suit and is being introduced as the new guy in the advertising firm. He hasn't got much to do, and a guy comes over to him having a quick chat about when he was in the US, he and another guy managed to hold down two jobs for about 6 months before anyone realised they weren't around the place much at their first job. Miranda has a friend over and the friend, Miranda and Christian guess songs that the others sing. Miranda and the friend have a conversation about being friends with exes and the girl says that she's friends with all of her exes. Miranda says that her ex hates her sometimes, and the friend says "I guess it's different with guys". Miranda doesn't seem to catch on. Christian tries to kiss the friend at the door and she pulls away, saying she wants to be his friend and nothing more. Kelly is sitting on the grass at Uni voicing that she doesn't know how to study, how to use the library but she's loving her life. Alex does a surgical procedure and gets humiliated by another doctor who instructs her to do the procedure another way. He gets frustrated and throws the instrument across the room. Alex and Evan tell Kelly that Evan's moving out. Kelly says "too crowded for what?!", then Alex and Evan go down for a drink at a doctor's function of Alex's. Evan picks up the blonde girl that was after Rex and they leave together. Then it skips a day earlier. Evan tells Alex that he's moving out, saying he thinks it's going to be a bit crowded. Alex runs into the doctor with whom she's doing the procedure with the next day. She talks to Rex about how his methods are old and dangerous. Kelly is at a computer at Uni and is embarrassed when a guy that she knows comes over to help her. Richie and Simon are seen doing indoor mountainclimbing in their living room. Simon says "Stop being a tightarse and just go to Nepal" and Richie says "I'm going to go". Evan is upstairs with Gabrielle. Gabrielle tells him about receiving a letter under her door the night before from Jason asking her to move to Sydney with him, saying he'd be outside with a cab at 7.30pm that night and would beep if she wanted to come down. He beeped on time and she didn't go down. He called and she didn't answer, then the cab left. Evan asks her if he can stay in her spare room for a while, a few months. He says because it's getting crowded downstairs and that he doesn't want to be in the way of "Sexy Rexy". Gab says to stay as long as he wants. Miranda is at the bar with Christian and the friend walks in. She says "Oh there's my new boss". They have a dance and drink with Christian. Then it skips a day earlier. Kelly has an interview at Uni with the psychology head of department who asks her why she's decided to do psychology. She says she likes "psychological stuff". Evan has an interview with a guy offering $60k and to see if he likes it and let him know. Kelly and Evan are on the landing talking about the pros and cons of the offer. Alex comes up and asks them whether they would mind if Rex moved in. Kelly says no, Evan asks whether they have a choice. Alex says of course but Evan gets angry and walks off when she admits she's already asked Rex to move in. Ritchie and Simon are seen mountainclimbing in the lounge again. Then it skips a day earlier. Gabrielle and Alex are painting Gab's walls. Alex tells her that Rex is moving in. Gab asks how Evan's taking it and Alex admits she hasn't told him yet. Miranda is being introduced at her new job at a call centre. Richie receives a package from Nick asking him to join him in Nepal and has sent some hiking boots. Richie says he doesn't have the money to go. Alex and Rex are on the bed talking about the swimming carnival. Alex says that she let him win to massage his ego. Skips a day earlier to the swimming carnival and Alex and Rex pashing on the podium.

S3 E2 • The Cycle

Called "The Cycle", this episode is about the lifecycle our characters. Evans voiceover talks about the cycle in the city compared to the country, where in the city it's basically all about "night, when you sleep or try to, and day". We then see each character progressing through their day - Rex & Alex retreating to bed as they don't have to be in at the hospital until 3 that afternoon, Evan in his new job making bets on which hat the cute girl at work will wear that day, Kelly at Uni, Gab at her work seeing a man who's recently been sacked because he discovered he wasn't being paid the award rate, Christian & Miranda squabbling over the milk and then Miranda at her new job, proceeding to ask Chloe if she'd like to come over to her and Christian's place for dinner tomorrow night. Evan heads for drinks with his workmates & then continues to tell us about the week, saying "Monday you go home and watch TV, Tuesday is pretty much the same as Monday, Wednesday you start worrying about your weight or exercise and Thursday the stress begins to show and the pressure must be alleviated". Christian, Kelly and Gab are sitting in Christian & Miranda's place talking about the parallels of Star Wars and everyday life. Christian's asking whether you would be friends with Luke Skywalker considering that he controls the universe. The discussion develops to talking about September 11 and how bizarre it was the 911 is the US emergency number, and why no plane wreckage was found at the pentagon. They decide that Luke Skywalker can't exactly be compared to Osama Bin Laden. And so we hear Evan again tell us that a day in our lives is simply "a passage of time that is now over and we'll never remember it again in our lives but it will repeated again & again. The next day, obviously Friday, we see the characters fast forwarding through the morning, Evan waking up and heading for the bathroom, Miranda throwing up her hands at the empty fridge, Gab heading into her office, Alex & Rex saying goodbye as they head to their respective areas of the hospital, Kelly at Uni asking "Why is it when there are 5,000 people starting uni the same time as you that you're the only one that gets lost?" She finds a room, knocks and asks the guy inside where her tutorial room is. He asks who her tutor is and says don't bother going because all she'll hear about in the first tute is stuff about the tutor himself. He asks her to sit down and be a victim of his psychology masters questionnaire. She accepts and starts answering the "mainly closed questions". Gab decides she wants to take the case of the sacked worker to the Equal Opportunities Commission for a chance at reconiliation prior to taking it to the Tribunal, which her co-worker wants to do. Evan tells us that "Friday afternoon you start thinking about who you're going to share bodily fluids with in the next 48 hours and binge drinking". He then walks off with his co-workers, along with the cute girl with the hats. Kelly has fun answering Jack's questions but their question time is cut short when Jack's friends, one of whom is Kelly tutor, come and whisk him away for another engagement. Jack asks Kelly to come along and they head to a pub and play pool with some beers. Miranda asks Chloe if she's still coming for dinner and Chloe says she's as good as there. Gab goes home by herself with a bottle of vino. We see Simon sitting by himself with an open bottle of red ready to pour, but he stops and recorks. Alex & Rex are at the hospital, Rex asks "So have you thought about it yet?" Evan's at a bar with his workmates and they're talking about the weirdest places they've had sex. Evan says that the best place is in the disabled toilet because nobody knocks, it's clean and like your own party room. They all think that's a great idea. Chloe comes to Christian and Miranda's for dinner and they discuss their eating habits. Chloe doesn't eat chicken because she found out about battery chickens when she was young, but would have eaten it if she'd been served it. Christian says he's a vegetarian who eats meat(!). Evan's in the disabled toilet with his workmates, who are snorting coke & decide that they don't want to go anywhere to eat, they just want to take drugs. Gab is watching TV and drinking wine alone. Kelly and Jack leave the pub to go to a party. Alex and Rex are at the hospital still, Rex asks, "Do you want to or not?" and gets frustrated when she doesn't say yes. Kelly leaves the party with Jack and his friends to go for some food. Evan leaves the bar with his friends and they all hop in a nice new Audi, with one of them driving. They pass the car that Kelly's in, and then pass Christian, Miranda & Chloe walking along the street, all parties oblivious to crossing paths. Gabrielle goes down to the Foo Bar where Simon is sitting contemplating the soon-to-be renovated Foo Bar. He reopens the wine for himself and Gabrielle and says that it's the first time he's had a drink in the bar with a friend. Christian, Miranda and Chloe go down to the beach and decide to go skinny dipping. Alex says "Yes, I want to" to Rex. It's now daylight & Kelly and Jack are walking along the beach. Evan wakes up and recalls snippets of the night before. Kelly and Jack say goodbye with a kiss. Evan waits at the apartment entrance and catches Kelly on her way home who lets him in. He doesn't know what happened to his jacket and keys and says he doesn't remember what he got up to. Gabrielle didn't hear his phonecalls and is still asleep. Christian, Miranda and Chloe are walking home bedraggled from their night out & about. Evan and Kelly go into Alex and Rex's room where they're sitting on the bed. Alex tells them she's moving out into Rex's place which'll be ready in a few weeks. Kelly says it's the end of their apartment and Alex says it's not. Evan's voiceover describes how being apart of someone's life who you've known for so long can stop suddenly.

S3 E3 • You Can't Always Get What You Want

Christian is spinning out of control despite Evan's effots to help him. Chloe & Miranda's big night out clubbing doesn't end as planned.Kelly bumps into Nathan-and his new wife. Evan helps Gabrielle to choose a flatmate. Although she insists on having a girl as a flatmate she finally chooses Patrick to be her flatmate after she spends some time with him.

S3 E4 • The Way We Are

Evan and Gabrielle are salsa dancing. It reminds them of being in Cuba, the fun they had. They kiss. But that was free Gabrielle, and responsible Gabrielle lives in the real world - is sex with Evan the best idea? Alex is sure that her supervisor, Professor Vanda, is the main reason she's being sent to Edenhope, a remote posting near the SA border. For the first time in her academic life Alex feels like she is being treated as the `problem child'. Rex doesn't agree and a rift develops. Kelly is working on her first university essay. Jake is helping out. Through their shared ideas, intimacy grows. Christian gets a sexy text message from a girl, Katie, at the Fu Bar. She's sitting at the other end of the bar. Christian and Katie have a drink and he discovers that she's deaf. They can't talk to each other but there's other ways of communicating.

Evan is given complete control in designing a TV commercial concept. It's the first proper work he's been given and he loves it. Meanwhile, Gabrielle bravely re-enters the dating game. When Jake helps Kelly with a bibliography for her university essay, she's smitten. Alex questions her career.

S3 E6 • The Quality of My Life

Alex's decision to move to London with Rex is cemented by a poor report from one of the senior surgeons at her hospital, despite the fact he has never operated with her. Evan helps organise a farewell party for the couple while Kelly stands back, distraught that her best friend is leaving. The farewell do is a perfect night for the happy couple and they make the impromptu decision to tie the knot in a low key ceremony on the oft used roof of their apartment building. The episode also features a confession by Miranda to her boss Chloe, and Richie battling to deal with life as an out-of-work actor.

Evan and Kelly's new housemate Marnie turns their lives upside down. Kelly fails in her first essay and asks Frank to hand him a new essay and he agrees. Gabrielle finds it difficult to live without Alex especially when she goes to have a swim (like she used to with Alex) and although she tries to go swimming with Kelly and Evan she still feels that it's not the same. The relationship of Miranda and Chloe gets really tight.

As one drink merges into another, the boys find themselves somewhere they would never have expected. After months of struggle, Kelly's academic horizons expand when she gets 19 out of 20 for a university essay. Suddenly, she finds herself considering things she never thought possible. Gabrielle finds herself in murky water when she decides to go for pre-selection at the local Federal seat. It seems like the job is hers, if she wants it - but it seems too easy, too quick. Meanwhile, Tidy encounters his first love, the woman he left the priesthood for, the woman who until one week ago was his sister-in-law. S3 E22 • Let the Burning Begin

The fallout from Evan and Alex's encounter lingers as Rex returns. He's tired, wrung-out, but not so much that he can't see something is going on. Rex presses Alex to reveal her secret, bringing their relationship to crisis point. Meanwhile, Evan, having finished his second book, meets his editor. It's Jemima. Yes, the girl who sprayed his room with fish sauce after they broke up, will edit Evan's heart and soul. Gabrielle is forced to re-examine her principles when Bruce reveals he is pursuing an underhanded tactic that will tip the balance of the by-election in her favour. It's D-Day for Kelly, due to go before a tribunal to explain why she cheated in her exam. She could be failed, or thrown out of the course altogether, but more disturbing to Kelly is the thought she has lost the respect of her friends, and her teacher Frank, forever. Chloe thinks Christian could do better than Talia, and can't help baiting his girlfriend. Christian, meanwhile, is trying to beat his epilepsy by going on a health kick. His actions unwittingly draw Talia and Chloe deeper into conflict. Richie too is caught between his lover and friend, his relationships with Charlie and Simon fraying before his eyes. It all comes to a head as Gabrielle awaits the results of her election, leaving Alex and Evan's relationship changed forever
