"It Was a Good Day" reste et restera le plus grand morceau mainstream d'Ice Cube en terme d'impact, il fût en effet instantanément accepté par de grandes radios grâce à sa réinterprétation du classique "Footsteps in the Dark" des Isley Brother's, se classant ainsi à la 15e position du Billboard Hot 100 et à la 7e place du Hip-Hop/R&B chart après sa sortie en 1992. Ce titre est accompagné d'un clip mettant en scène la journée idéale du rappeur en l'espace quatre minutes environs avec différentes séquences filmées dans le South Central à Los Angeles, chacune étant en parfaite harmonie avec des lyrics à la fois crues et très descriptives.

Sur ce morceau, Ice Cube s'adresse au "ghetto bird" (l'oiseau du ghetto) qu'il essaie de fuir tant bien que mal. "Ghetto bird" est un terme argotique pour parler des hélicoptères de police qui patrouillent souvent les les régions urbaines des Etats-Unis, notamment dans les quartiers défavorisés de Los Angeles, ville natale du rappeur. Cette chanson apparaît au début du film Menace II Society et sample "Funky Worm" de Ohio Players.

En 1989, Ice Cube refuse de signer un contrat que proposent les deux patrons de Ruthless Records, Jerry Heller et Eazy-E, et fait preuve d'un flaire incroyable et d'une grande lucidité. Pour faire valoir ses droits d'auteurs (il a notamment écrit plus de la moitié de Straight Outta Compton et les 3/4 de Eazy Duz It), il décide d'entamer une procédure. N.W.A. n'apprécie pas sa décision et envoient des piques au rappeurs dans un morceau issu de l'EP 100 Miles and Runnin'. La réponse du rappeur fait l'effet d'une bombe en 1991 et reste aujourd'hui à jamais graver dans l'histoire du rap. Le groupe n'a même pas prit la peine de répliquer face aux rimes incisives du rappeur, et Dr. Dre, se rendant compte tout comme Ice Cube de l'arnaque de Jimmy Heller, quittera le groupe quelques temps plus tard pour monter son propre empire avec Suge Knights : Death Row.

Morceau hardcore où Ice Cube et Dr. Dre incarne deux tueurs.

"I don't understand the logic in my dreams

Ice Cube retranscrit et décrit un jour typique dans le ghetto. Cette chanson sera par la suite reprise par Lil Wayne et Gucci Mane dans "We Be Steady Mobin'".

Ice Cube critique tous ceux qui préfèrent suivre les modes, les tendances, plutôt que de rester fidèles à eux-même et à leurs valeurs. Il s'adresse notamment aux afro-américains qui côtoient des femmes blanches :

Morceau mythique issu de la bande-originale du film Friday où Ice Cube tient le rôle principal avec Chris Tucker.

Avec "It Was a Good Day", ce morceau a permit à Ice Cube d'atteindre les 2 millions de copies vendues avec l'album The Predator et sera reprit par le groupe de métal KoЯn. L'instrumentale brute de Torcha Chamba met en valeur le fait que le rappeur est toujours aussi fidèle à lui-même malgré un début de carrière à Hollywood.

L'un des morceaux le plus controversé du rappeur, le titre "I Wanna Kill Sam" fait référence à Oncle Sam, personnage emblématique et allégorie des Etats-Unis qui figure mort sur la pochette du classique Death Certificate, couvert d'un linceul au couleur du drapeau américain.
