S1 E1 • The Lowly Prince

A civil service examination is taking place at Hanyang, the capital of Joseon. Yi Geum, a forsaken prince is asked to substitute someone at the exam for a fine horse. Right when he was about to turn his exam in, a fellow named Park Mun Su catches him at the spot. The next thing you know, Prince Yeoning, Yi Geum is on the run.

S1 E2 • The Death Ledger

Tensions rise between the parties and the princes after the King’s decision in vindicating Kang Bin. Some inspectors of Saheonbu hear about Prince Mil Poong’s death ledger and warns Prince Yeon Ryeong to keep his guards up. Now that they’ve found out about it, Yeo Ji and Jeong Seok set their mind on finding the death ledger.

S1 E3 • Yeo Ji Meets Prince Yeoning

Yeo Ji is caught stealing something out of Prince Mil Poong’s tent at a hunting event. Right when Prince Mil Poong was about to kill her, Yi Geum saves the day by inviting a wild boar to the scene. Yeo Ji opens the box she stole, expecting it to be the rumored death ledger Prince Mil Poong has. However, it only turns out to be a box full of dry leaves and flowers.

S1 E4 • Welcome Back, Prince Yeoning!

The more they dig in, the more Yeo Ji and Jeong Seok find out that there’s something fishy behind No Tae Pyeong’s death. Inspector Wi is promoted as the team leader of Saheonbu, another political decision made by Min Jin Heon. The more Prince Yeoning learns about Prince Mil Poong, the more he’s worried about the palace. Right then, he gets an order to come back to the palace.

Jeong Seok stands firm at the Supreme Court and asks for a thorough investigation on Prince Mil Poong. As the high-officials demand for a valid source, Prince Yeoning storms in and turns himself in as a source. He confesses how him substituting for No Tae Pyeong, led him to know about Yi Tan’s hideous deeds.

S1 E6 • King Sukjong’s Secret

With his confession in substituting for the civil service exam, Yi Geum, Prince Yeoning asks for an exile to Tamna. He tries to secure Prince Yeon Ryeong’s lineup as the next king. However, King Sukjong shares a personal secret to chief inspector, Yi Yi Gyeom. Sukjong wants Yi Geum to be the next king.

Min Jin Heon offers to save Prince Yeon Ryeong by the Norons supporting him, only if Prince Yeoning cancels his testimony as a source. After a night long distress, Yi Geum writes a letter to Saheonbu saying he was fooled by Inspector Han. Inspector Han is arrested and out of guilt, Yi Geum goes to a courtesan house to treat all of Hanyang with booze and music.

Prince Mil Poong is set to leave Hanyang and go to the Qing Dynasty. Yeo Ji, Mun Su and Yi Geum continue their search in finding that Death Ledger of Yi Tan. Right when things were getting so close to an end, they hear the death of Prince Yeong Ryeong. The death of Inspector Han. And the death of King Sukjong, the royal Highness.

Ever since King Sukjong died, the then Crown Prince and now King Gyeongjong has been in the throne. A year has passed but the timid and introvert king has only been losing respect and even servants mocking him. The Norons plan to overtake the government while Prince Yeoning slowly gets back on his feet.

Prince Yeoning realizes that the Norons took a huge part in the corruptions behind the civil service exam for years. With such evidence, Saheonbu continues its investigation and the Norons feel cornered. They try manipulating the public, but Yeo Ji comes up with a plan to turn tables once again.

The powerful Norons are surprised at how even the Noron families joined the protest on the corruption of the exams. The Chief Inspector however, remembers what King Sukjong personally shared with him. Mun Su and the rest find Yeo Ji covered in blood and swiftly take care of her. In shock that Yeo Ji was targeted due to him, Prince Yeoning tentatively cares for her and applies medicine for her too. After the turbulent night, King Gyeongjong announces his final order. Prince Yeoning will be now, Crown Prince.

Mun Su is having a hard time getting used to Saheonbu’s new traditions, but stays strong. The Sorons and Norons refuse to attend to the new Crown Prince’s morning lectures. Slightly discouraged at the officials disapproval of him as Crown Prince, Prince Yeoning tries to remain calm and looks for an excuse to venture outside of the palace.

Yeo Ji, Mun Su and the others are deployed to investigate a human trafficking case. Young girls have been sold at cheap prices to the Qing Dynasty. Including Prince Yeoning, the team go undercover to a newly opened courtesan house to find out more. During their mission, they find out it wasn’t a Qing man who was behind of the case.

Saheonbu arrests the Crown Prince and the whole palace turns tumultuous. The Crown Prince defends his innocence, but the Department of Justice and Saheonbu both press charges against the Highness. Mun Su and Yeo Ji fix their minds on how to release the Crown Prince and find out it was a young girl who committed the murder.

The Crown Prince finds the little girl who killed Jipyeong Oh at the palace and grabs her. He asks why she had to do it and listens to her side of the story. Heartbroken at how poorly the young peasants were living, the Crown Prince decides to tell what he heard to His Majesty.

Saheonbu and Hanseongbu together, put their hands on the investigation of the master murdering case. Saheonbu arrests the Crown Prince for hiding the child who killed Jipyeong Oh, but is really trying to cover the human trafficking. Mun Su and Yeo Ji are all worried for the Crown Prince and so is His Majesty.

After his speech for the people at the banquet, the Crown Prince expects to be dethroned. However, the exact opposite happens. Moved by the Crown Prince’s speech, people started gathering their IDs in front of the palace walls to support him. Unlike the nobles, the people don’t want Prince Yeoning to be dethroned.

A wife refuses to hold her husband’s funeral and Saheonbu thinks it’s just a simple inspection. The Team Leader hands the case to Park Mun Su, but Mun Su senses that something is wrong about the husband’s death. The more he digs the case, the more he finds out that it wasn’t an accidental death like what the police bureau says.

Min Jin Heon steps up during the Special Judiciary Agency and sides with the Crown Prince. The Crown Prince is saved from being crucified when he’s done no crime. As soon as he’s released, the Crown Prince heads out to the city to see Dal Moon, who’s been siding with Prince Mil Poong.

Inspector Park Mun Su writes his own statement in arresting Wi Byung Ju for murdering a fellow inspector, Han Jeong Seok. Along with Mun Su, the Crown Prince takes the king’s guards with him to arrest Do Ji Gwang and Prince Mil Poong.

Prince Mil Poong and other criminals who were behind the treason case are under arrest and the interrogation begins. Those who were captured were also charged with their previous crime records if they had any. The Crown Prince tries everything he can to save the King’s life. Mun Su and Master Yoon Hyuk even visit Prince Mil Poong and Wi Byung Ju to find what went behind. As a final decision Yi Geum prescribes wolfsbane, a deadly toxic ingredient to save the King. But His Majesty closes his eyes for eternity.

King Gyeongjong dies, and rumors follow blaming the Crown Prince for his indifference and death. The palace is outraged and demands the Queen Dowager to find justice to his death. With speculations and oppositions, Soron splits into two. One supports Chief Justice Jo Tae Koo who opposes the Crown Prince, and the other who supports Yi Gwang Jwa that does. Meanwhile, military agencies show unusual movements.

Due to one hideous note that was scattered around the streets of Hanyang, people’s distrust in His Majesty intensifies. Patients at the Hwalinseo refuse to be treated and more are demanding to open up the gates to escape the city. Finally, His Majesty decides to meet the people himself and tell them that he will be by their side, no matter what.

The rebellions are continuing their fight, and so is the royal army. After a notice that there could be spies from the rebellion in the royal army, Inspector Park tests something out. During a strategy meeting he says the army should go to Jiksan, but takes his men to Anseong for an ambush attack.
