Bike-mad Oliver wants something that no-one else has ever asked the designers for: a BMX track in his back garden! His parents, Sally and Ian, from Appleton in Warrington, agreed to write in to the show on the condition that there was something in the garden for them too. Top of their wishlist is a new entertainment space at the back of the garden, because the current patio is in the shade most of the day while the back of the garden gets all the sun. The design team travel up to Warrington to meet their young client and find out if his dream of a BMX track can be integrated with a more adult space, fit for inviting friends round for a BBQ. It’s a tough challenge, but one that Harry, David and Charlie can’t wait to get their creative hands on.

The Garden Rescue team are in Leamington Spa to help Robert and Gemma and their young daughter Darcey, who is afraid of the family’s nettle-strewn, overgrown garden. The family want a place where Darcey can come out and play without fear of falling into nettles or injuring herself on the uneven and broken patio. With a budget of £6,000 to restore what was once, in the past, a well-maintained garden, the couple are after something that will set off their new home to perfection. As ever, the two design teams go head to head. Arit Anderson's deisgn incorporates a winding path and hexagonal seats, while the Rich brothers favour an elegant mix of topiary balls and wild grasses, all set off with a summer house. The decision is, as ever, with the family.

Busy working couple Nicola, a radiographer, and her husband Anthony, an accountant, have lived in Swindon for 13 years, but they moved to their new house only last year. They regard the house as their forever dream home, but having finally found it, the garden is letting them down! With a budget of £3,00, the couple want to bring some Mediterranean glamour and a sophisticated, colourful contemporary style to their boring and boxy new build garden. All that and being able to withstand their pet dog, who loves to dig up the plants! As ever, Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers, Harry and David, go head to head in a pitch to win the right to makeover the couple’s garden. Who will win? And will they be able to transform an otherwise uninspiring space, into a welcoming and warm outdoor space, perfect for entertaining or quiet al fresco dining, after a long, stressful day at work? If anyone can, it is the Garden Rescue team.

Jeannie and Norman have spent their retirement making the most of their long garden in Petersfield, Hampshire, but the one part of the garden they aren’t happy with is the area that overlooks the local fields and rolling Hampshire views. The couple want to turn this area at the back of their garden into a secluded, calm, Japanese-inspired ‘bolt hole’, separate from the ‘social area’ where they entertain friends and family - a ‘garden within a garden’, just for them, where they can watch the wildlife and the sun set. They have a decent budget of three thousand pounds to create this crowning glory to their beloved garden, but who will win the right to turn that money into a dream garden? Will it be Charlie Dimmock or the Rich brothers Harry and David? With the clock ticking on the makeover, can the winning designer, get the garden done in time? And will Jeannie and Norman love it when they open their eyes on their new garden?

Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers, Harry and David, are in Daresbury, in Chester, answering a Garden Rescue emergency call from downsizers Karen and Alan. The couple have a small wedge-shaped garden with so little in it that the only thing to look at is the fences, and to make matters worse, those fences don’t even stop the garden from being completely overlooked by neighbours. The couple work from home and so they spend a lot of time looking at or living in the garden, so it's not surprising that they want to bring their space to life and create some much needed privacy, too. But they have a particular request: they don’t like straight lines and want a wandering journey through the garden. With a budget of only £2,500, this garden rescue job will be difficult for the designers, but they can spot a sadly under-utilised green space a mile off, so head up to Daresbury to pitch their rival garden visions to the couple. Who will win the right to transform Karen and Alan’s blank oddly shaped plot into their tranquil, private oasis of a garden?

The Garden Rescue team are in the Bristol suburb of Bradley Stoke to come to the horticultural help of Laura and Andrew. This time the team have an unusual challenge - can they turn a long, pointed front garden into a water-saving, wildlife-friendly space that won’t have dad Andrew feeling embarrassed when he comes home from work? While they might not want the normal, low maintenance, simple lawn or gravel that many people have outside their front door, Andrew definitely doesn’t feel good about the tangle of weeds and overgrown wildflower meadow that has taken over the space and swallowed up the path from the street to the front door. His dream is something that won’t embarrass the neighbours! While Laura, his wife, is after water conservation and a place to encourage the bugs and creepy crawlies that young son William loves. With a budget of just £2,000, the pressure is on to come up with a design that works to their limited budget. The designers are going to have to put their thinking caps on! So, the two design teams go head to head to wow the young Bristol couple with their plans for a head-turning front garden. The Rich brothers, Harry and David, offer a clever design of decking laid over an ornamental dry river bed leading to a central bound gravel square all surrounded by planting, shrubs and trees. Charlie Dimmock, on the other hand, pulls out all the stops, with a dramatic large bog garden and planting bed, fed by a water feature made of five watering cans that run off the rainwater drain pipe. So, who will the couple pick? And will they, after all the hard work, when they open their eyes to see their surprise new garden for the first time, be bowled over?

S4 E17 • Rotherham

In this episode, Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers, Harry and David, are in Rotherham to create a colourful, social space for Sue and Robert Jenkins. With their son now 16, this couple want a grown-up garden at last! But Sue suffers from Crohn’s disease, so the garden needs to be somewhere that she can relax and recuperate when fatigued. At the moment it is a boring, sloping lawn with few redeeming qualities and nothing to attract you outside. Also, they really want an additional area in the sun at the bottom of the garden, as the current patio area near the house is always in the shade. Finally, the couple are not expert gardeners but love pottering around in the summer and spring, so a garden design with summer flowers may be the answer, especially if it includes Sue’s much-loved lavender and lemon balm. So, Sue and Robert have a lot on their wish list, but luckily they have a budget to match – with £6,500 set aside for their dream garden. Can Charlie, Harry and David come up with a pair of designs that cater for all of Sue and Robert’s garden wishes? As ever, the designers have to pitch against each other for the right to make over the garden. The brothers want to create a garden full of simple planting set against a contemporary wooden deck edged with weathered steel. Charlie, on the other hand, wants to create a dramatic garden, complete with abundant plants, large entertainment space and a subtle water feature, that runs from the original upper patio to a lower new patio. So, whose design will Sue and Robert pick and, with the clock running, can the team make the couple’s wish for a new, adult garden come true?

In this episode, Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers Harry and David, are in Alton, Hampshire to bring life, colour and drama to the suburban garden of Jemma and Mike and their new baby, Annabel. Jemma and Mike visited the Provence region of France on their honeymoon three years ago and would love to take inspiration from the area. They are after a very specific look that includes lavender, roses, galvanized tubs and pea gravel paths. It’s a very romantic wish list but a long way from the lifeless, boring space they have now! Not surprisingly, the designers can’t wait to get stuck in and the creative juices are soon flowing. But in the battle to win the pitch, who will be picked to provide the Gallic flair that Jemma and Mike crave? With the summer sun blazing throughout the build, the French holiday weather is certainly on hand and the brothers even dress the part for inspiration! But, when the garden’s done and the couple see it for the first time, will it be a case of ‘très bon’ or ‘Sacré bleu’?

In this episode, Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers, Harry and David, are in Cwmcarn, just outside Newport in Wales, to tackle Kim and Simon’s vertiginous three tiered garden. This is no simple back lawn; instead their garden is so steep it rises above the roof of the house to offer fantastic views of the local forest and mountain. Kim and Simon want to make the most of the amazing views but have no idea how to tackle the impossible tiers. Luckily, they know of people who do, Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers! A call to help with this ‘high rise’ garden certainly 'peaks' the three designers' interest! And for Welsh lads, Harry and David, they can’t resist the call of ‘home’ either. Kim and Simon have a healthy £5,000 budget, but they’ll need every penny of that to tame this monster and make it fit for their smartly decorated home. So, can Charlie, Harry and David come up with a pair of designs that deliver Kim and Simon’s dream garden? As ever, when the designers go head to head to pitch for the right to build their design, it’s clear they have different ideas for what Kim and Simon need. The brothers want to create a series of retaining walls clad in weathered steel and three different seating areas, one in paving, one in bound gravel and one in lawn, so each garden tier feels very different. Charlie, on the other hand, wants to create boardwalks, veg beds and a water feature to add stop-off points amid the dramatic views. So, whose design will Kim and Simon pick and, with the clock running, can the designers, aided by their trusted team of landscapers, take on the high-risk challenge of this high level garden and deliver the couple’s dream garden?

Charlie Dimmock and Rich brothers, Harry and David, are in Hucknall, just outside Nottingham, answering another call to the Garden Rescue hotline. Keely and Bruce have a lovely house, but it is let down by a blank-canvas garden. They have no idea what to put into it, apart from the hot tub that Keeley needs for therapeutic reasons after having suffered a debilitating brain injury. But the couple don't want the tub to be an eyesore, as they want to create a space where Keely, who is often too tired to go out, can feel relaxed and happy. The designers soon find out there’s more to the brief than meets the eye, as they also have to make the garden cool and contemporary, full of hostas and fit for the family pooch. Charlie’s design moves the hot tub to the back of the garden and wraps wooden seating around it, to make it more of a social space, while the brothers’ design uses a mix of hard landscaping and planting to screen the hot tub. Which will Kelly and Bruce choose?

Jessica and Peter live in Swansea with their two small children, but their garden is far from the perfect family space. With an ugly concrete outhouse, dangerous broken steps, mismatched levels and wild overgrown corners, it is neither safe not attractive. In fact it's ripe for a visit from Garden Rescue. The couple are after a space that matches their stylishly remodeled home while also giving them all a place to grow veg, harvest fruit and watch wildlife come to feed and drink from their pond. Will they choose the Rich brothers' proposed design, complete with cobbled paths and mini orchard underplanted with strawberries, or Arit Anderson’s plan for a new lawn, a dappled nature corner and a smart gabion walls?

Charlie Dimmock and Harry and David Rich are in Northampton, answering another Garden Rescue SOS call. This time, it’s to create a garden that allows two children with limited mobility access to the outdoors. Although Jamie, aged eight, is in a wheelchair and Phoebe, aged four, has to use a walker, their parents Andy and Louise are determined that their children should be able to be independently active in their garden - especially, as both Jamie and Phoebe love sports like basketball and archery. But the garden has lumpy grass that the kids' mobility aids don’t work on and a tiny patio that is too small for the children to navigate, let alone put decent garden furniture on. It's the team’s job to create a working solution to this family's needs, and to make their task harder little Phoebe has a very specific demand - the finished garden must include unicorns!

Will Harry and David's fire bowl area, arid landscape and bog garden conjure up Michelle and Andrew's holiday memories? Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers, Harry and David, are in Bicester, Oxfordshire, answering a Garden Rescue emergency from parents Sarah and Adam. Like all overstretched mums, Sarah is after a space where she can relax and unwind after a day spent juggling two young children, but she’s also aware that the garden needs to work as a play space for the kids too. Having a budget of only £2,500 makes the job even more difficult for the designers. Not for the first time, they take very different approaches. Charlie’s garden is fully fitted out with distracting entertainment for the children, from tunnels to run through to sand pits and mud gardens, while Harry and David have given over more of the garden to Mum and Dad, with a calm relaxing oasis full of grasses and benches. Who will win the right to transform Sarah and Andy’s blank square plot into their dream garden?

In this episode, Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers Harry and David, are in Hook, Hampshire, to save young couple Cat and Joel from the garden from hell. These loved-up newlyweds dream of a family garden for the children that they plan to have, a space full of grass and wildlife friendly flowers, but the trouble is, all they have now is a concrete garden made up of nothing but paving stones. The big issue is the new build house has a covenant that bans them putting in any deep-rooted plants because of buried gas pipes. So can Charlie, Harry and David come up with a pair of designs that prove you can still have a dream garden even if you can’t plant trees, big shrubs or any deep-rooted plants? And, amazingly, that is not the designers' only problem - this empty, existing back yard also has an ugly wire fence overlooking a noisy railway line. If ever a challenge had been laid down to our intrepid garden designers, this is it. The clock is running and the heat is on, literally, as the team battle the blazing summer and a daunting schedule to make Cat and Joel’s dream come true.

In this episode, Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers, Harry and David, are in Salford, Greater Manchester, to tackle Nicole’s tired, ‘uninspired’, garden. While there is nothing much to her back yard at the moment except a simple, scrappy lawn, Nicole wants to make the most of the space by turning it into a wonderful place of nostalgia, recreating the ‘kleine garden’ of her childhood in Germany. An army child, Nicole spent 12 years growing up in Germany. She remembers being given a ‘kleine Garten’ from the German council. These gardens, of which there are over a million in the country, give residents that live in blocks of flats their own piece of nature. Traditionally divided into one third fruit, one third veg, one third lawn, these community gardens almost always feature a shed or spot to sit out and enjoy the garden and cook up simple suppers using the produce grown on site. Nicole has a budget of £3,000, so the designers will need every penny of that to create Nicole’s nostalgic garden and make it fit for the high standards set by Germans for their kleine gardens. So, can Charlie, Harry and David come up with a pair of designs that deliver Nicole’s childhood garden? As ever, when the designers go head to head to pitch for the right to build their design, it is clear they have different ideas for what Nicole needs. The brothers want to create a series of garden ‘rooms’, including two different seating areas, one formal paved space and one more casual, with log seats around a fire pit. Charlie, on the other hand, wants to create a garden with a shed in the middle of it, surrounded by a seating area with a potbellied stove, veg beds and fruit trees. Whose design will the Nicole pick and, with the clock running, can the designers, aided by their trusted team of landscapers, take on the challenge of this little slice of Germany in Salford and deliver Nicole’s dream garden?

S4 E38 • Harborne

The Garden Rescue team are in Harborne, south-west Birmingham, to help Thomas and Kate. The couple are both retired and have vowed to create their dream garden now their four children have grown up and left home and the lawn in no longer the scene of endless football and rugby matches. But it is too big of a job for them to tackle, so they have turned to Garden Rescue for the help they need to see their garden come to life. They have a budget of £4,500 and have a few specific ideas to get the team thinking. The sun moves through the couple’s garden as the day goes on, and Tom would like to reflect this by splitting the garden into different sections for different times of the day. One of those sections, at the end of the garden, Thomas wants to turn into a cool campsite style hang out, with a fire pit and wooden log benches, to reflect his lifelong love of the Scouts, while Kate’s main wish is for a ‘wiggly’ path to run through the garden. Can the Garden Rescue team turn this tired, plain garden into somewhere classy and fit for their retirement? The team, Arit Anderson and the Rich brothers, David and Harry, all head to Harborne to visit Tom and Kate and are soon enthusing about the job and helping this lovely couple. As ever, the Rich Brothers and Arit go head to head to create the perfect garden design for Thomas and Kate, but who will win - will Kate and Tom be swayed by the Rich brothers’ design, with its woodland planting and enclosed “outdoor room” inspired by Tom’s Scouting history? Or will Arit’s design with a meandering pathway, two connecting circular lawns and colourful planting scheme win them over? The decision is, as ever, with Tom and Kate. More importantly, can the three gardeners, with the help of their regular landscape team, successfully deliver the couple’s chosen garden before the sun sets? Alison and Janice moved to Goring-by-Sea after falling in love with the beautiful scenery there while on a weekend visit. It is the perfect antidote to their stressful jobs as a systems analyst and paramedic. However, their garden sadly doesn’t reflect this beautiful setting. With a budget of two and a half thousand pounds, left to Alison in an inheritance from her father, the couple want to create a beautiful, social garden where they can, at last, return the many BBQ invitations they have received from friends over the years. The couple have a very specific theme in mind to turn this blank space, ‘new build’ garden into a relaxing, Australian-inspired ‘bolt hole’. Alison and Janice love the land down under, and have visited many times. Can the designers, Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers, come good with a design that will satisfy the couple’s desire for an antipodean outdoor space? Both offer the couple the cracked earth, beach look of Oz, complete with water feature and evening chill out space built around a fire bowl, along with dramatic southern hemisphere plants, like the couple’s much loved palm trees. With two twists on the same theme, will it be Charlie Dimmock or Harry and David Rich who get the nod from Janice and Alison when they go head to head in the pitch to win the right to make over the garden? And, with the clock ticking on the makeover, can the winning designer get the garden done in time? And will Alison and Janice love it?

S4 E40 • Cheshunt

Charlie Dimmock and Harry and David Rich are in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, answering another request. This time, it is to create a garden that fuses Japan and Yorkshire. James is proudly born and bred in Yorkshire and wants to see hints of it in his new Home Counties house, while his Japanese wife Akika, who he met when travelling, naturally wants to feel a link to her upbringing and homeland, to make her feel closer to her past. It is the team’s job to re-create this international mix in garden form. And, to make their task harder, the couple only have a budget of £2,000 – given to them by James’ parents. The good news though is that at least the money won’t have to be stretched over a big space, as this really is a little garden. But that does mean Charlie and the brothers have to make sure they don’t deliver something that still feels small and pokey. Altogether, it is a difficult balancing act for Charlie Dimmock and the Rich brothers to pull off. But they can spot an exciting challenge a mile off, so head up to Cheshunt to pitch their rival solutions for the couple. And, not for the first time, they take very different approaches. Charlie’s garden is all about a wandering lawn that leads to a welcoming pergola, while the Rich brothers have given over the garden to gravel paths and stones – representing the dry stone walls of Yorkshire and the carefully placed stones of Japanese Zen gardens. So who will win the right to transform James and Akika’s soulless square plot into their dream fusion of Japan meets Yorkshire? One thing is for sure - whoever wins, there will be white roses, bamboo and a lesson in do it yourself bonsai tree making.
