S1 E1 • Chapter 1 (Mary is observed by the angel Gabriel)

In Jerusalem, a crowd of people throw stones at Jesus, who carries the cross. Christ is flogged by Roman soldiers. Caiaphas looks at him with hatred and contempt. Mary Magdalene suffers from seeing the scene. Peter is terrified. Mary, impotent, observes the crucifixion of her own son. The Roman centurion Petronius also suffers looking at the cross. From the palace of Herod, Pontius Pilate looks out the window in anguish. While Jesus is nailed to the cross, the earth begins to tremble and the sky rages. Simeon explains the origin of humanity to the little Barabbas and Simon Zealot. The High Priest Annas, assisted by the Levite Caiaphas, receives the offerings of the profiled Jews. Isaac, the father of Barabbas and Simon, tries to argue with the religious leader about the taxes paid, but does not succeed. Judas Galileo introduces himself to Isaac. A great movement of passers-by takes over the Temple of the city of Jerusalem, a year before Christ. Herod the Great is the king of Judea. In his palace, he speaks paranoidly in the presence of his sons, Archelaus and Antipas. Judas Galileo inflames Isaac by speaking evil of Herod and the High Priest Annas. Caiaphas says that the king does not care about the laws of God. Simeon talks about the Messiah with the boys Barabbas and Simon Zealot. In a humble house, the young Mary of Nazareth receives a flower of the fianc2e Joseph. In the palace, Herod is warned about the action of rebellious Jews. The High Priest warns that the king wants the head of the leader of the rebellious Jews. Petronius thanks Maria's help and tries to kiss her. Outraged, she slaps him. The other soldiers arrive and take Petronius. Asisa calls Maria debauchery and traitor. Simeon meets the young Nicodemus. They see a false Messiah and Simeon says that he is not the true Savior. In Nazareth, Mary is watched by the angel Gabriel. Judas Galileo is denounced by a Jewish informant. Asisa meets her father, Ephraim. She lies and says that Mary was kissed by the Roman soldier. Maria gives satisfaction to the parents Joaquim and Ana. Not conformed with the abusive collection of taxes, Isaac tells Barrabás that it is necessary to act. Annas tells Tribune about the presence of Judas Galileo in Jerusalem. Alphaeus, Mirian's husband, seeks Joseph. Mary tells the truth to the parents. Sula criticizes her sister. Alphaeus tries to calm Joseph, but he walks away. Petronius orders them to arrest the bodies of the dead rebels in the trees. Asisa is against Mary and she is almost lynched by the people. Petronius and the other soldiers return to Jerusalem. José arrives and questions the bride. Mirian surprises everyone and says Maria is innocent. Joseph stands by Mary's side and criticizes Ephraim's attitude. Joaquim thanks the support of his son-in-law. In Jerusalem, Isaac walks with his wife and children, Barabbas and Simon Zealot, through the streets. Joachim says that Judas Galileo set out with the rebels to Jerusalem. Isaac reassures the family that he will get a job soon. Mary and Joseph exchange vows of love. Petronius arrives in Jerusalem. Cívia asks Barabbas to say nothing about Isaac's mission. Caiaphas warns that the rebels will behave soon. In conversation with Petronius, Tribunus says he is being informed by Annas and Caiaphas. José treats Mary with affection. Simeon talks about the coming of the Messiah. Dark, Satan watches the city of Jerusalem. The angel Gabriel stands in front of the house of Mary and comes across Satan. Maria wakes up and sees a light entering the room. Frightened, she meets up with Gabriel. The angel warns that Mary will give birth to a boy who will be called Jesus.

Barabbas wakes up in the middle of the night and goes after Isaac. Simon Zealot follows his brother and ends up entering a stable. The boy ends up causing a fire in the place and falls on the straw. Simeon finds Barabbas lost in the street. Cívia notices the children's absence and despairs. Petronius manages to save the life of Simon Zealot. Caiaphas seeks Tribuno and warns of the actions of the Jewish rebels. Judas Galileo, Isaac and the others enter the palace of Herod, but they end up captured. Maria is moved to remember the encounter with the angel. Herod is warned of the capture of the rebels and orders the death of the only survivor. Simeon talks about the coming of Messiah to Barabbas. Asisa pretends to be best friend of the girl and asks the messenger to deliver the package. Ana gives strength to Mary. Joseph says farewell to Alphaeus. Sula accuses Maria of being lying. Ana asks to speak to Joaquim alone. Maria leaves the house in anguish. Petronius takes Cassandra to the feast of Herod. Asisa looks for Joseph and shows the gift sent to Mary. Satan watches them. Jose uncontrollably takes the dress off Asisa's hands. Arquelau offers to present the palace to Cassandra. Petronius prevents the boy from taking action. Herod laughs when he realizes that the magicians speak about the arrival of a Messiah. Zebedee runs to call for some midwife. Mary is moved by the words of Simeon. Annas and other priests are called by Herod to clarify the information of the magicians. They say that the prophecies say that the Messiah will be born in Bethlehem. Herod sends the three magicians to Bethlehem. Sula gives birth to a boy. Baltazar, Melchior, and Gaspar arrive in Bethlehem. Herod is disturbed by Satan. Sula becomes jealous of all the attention given to Maria's baby. Barabbas cares for little Simon Zealot. Baltazar, Melchior and Gaspar arrive in front of the house of Sula and are received by the angel Gabriel. Jose and Maria are surprised by the visit of the three magicians. Antipas and Archelaus go to meet Herod's call. In the manger of Sula's house, Baltazar, Melchior and Gaspar know little Jesus. Sula does not seem to believe that Jesus is the Messiah. The magicians present the baby Jesus. Archelaus and Antipas are frightened by Herod's command. Baltazar, Melchior, and Gaspar refuse to return to Jerusalem, fearing Herod. Mary and Joseph make plans with Jesus. Soldiers of Herod follow the road to Bethlehem. Gabriel appears before Joseph to see that they must flee with Jesus to Egypt, for Herod wants to kill the boy. The soldiers arrive in the city to annihilate all the babies. Sula refuses to leave with Jose and Maria. A soldier catches them fleeing and raises his sword to kill Jesus. Sula and Zebedee realize that the soldiers are approaching. The angel Gabriel prevents Jesus from being attacked and has Joseph and Mary flee with the baby. Antipas does not seem to believe the father's order to kill innocent children. The soldiers invade Sula's house. A baby is spared for being a girl. One of the soldiers regrets what he did. Four years later, in Egypt, Mary and Joseph take care of little Jesus. With them Tiago Justo and José Filho, the two brothers of Jesus. Herod has a crisis and is saved by the servant. He orders a massacre. Nicodemus and Caiaphas comment on the atrocities committed by Herod. The king makes changes in his will and says his time is coming. Maria says she misses Ana and Joaquim. Archelaus is warned of Herod's state of health. In the mountainous region of Judea, Zechariah and Elizabeth receive the help of the servant Elza in the creation of the little John the Baptist. Archelaus sees Herod at his last and approaches. He provokes his father and says he will win the trust of the people. Powerless, Herod is furious and dies. Satan watches the city. An officer announces the death of Herod. Jews celebrate in the streets. The news reaches the temple. Tribuno sends word to Rome. Satan watches, satisfied, the killing. Joseph, Mary and the children meet a pastor on the way. They learn of the killing at the temple in Jerusalem and are alerted to the cruelty of Archelaus. They go to Nazareth. A few days pass and they meet again Ana and Joaquim. Maria discovers that Sula has not been able to save her baby. Maria's sister says she's expecting another child. Annas complains about the government of Archelaus. Maria treats Sula with affection. Mirian listens to Asisa speaking ill of Maria and throws mud in her. Sula says it's best to stay away from Maria. Joaquim thanks God for his daughter's return. Twenty-six years pass. John the Baptist appears in the desert.

Annas and Caiaphas see Barabbas commanding the rebels. They decide to rally the members of the Sanhedrin. Dimas and Gestas watch Diana take food out of the palace. Zelote tries to warn Barrabás to the danger. Batista argues with a Pharisee. Jesus tries to protect himself from a sandstorm. Arimathea suffers from the memories of his wife Edissa. Malchus calls Arimathea for a meeting. Diana takes food for her mother, Adela. Arimathea discusses with Annas and Caiaphas. Claudia and Helena are received by Joan, who tells the truth about Herodias. Pilate is irritated by still hearing cries at the entrance of the palace. Petronius confronts Barabbas and discovers that he is the son of the rebellious Isaac. In the wilderness, Jesus tries to protect himself from the sandstorm. Barrabas offers Petronius his own neck. The rest of the rebels do the same. On his return to Tiberias, Salome asks to bathe in the Jordan. José talks to his daughter Yona and says that his time is coming. The sandstorm begins to calm. Salome meets John the Baptist in the river. Herodíade arrives and tries to distract Batista. André and Filipe note his absence. The boy seems to stop breathing. In faith, the officer begs for Jesus' help. The Messiah just says that the boy will live. The officer's wife and Cornelius are surprised by the boy's recovery. Excited, the Officer returns home and Jesus goes on his way. Chuza asks Joana to return with him, but she warns that she will only return after being baptized by Batista. Without meaning to, Longinus confesses to Petronius that he beat Batista. Jairo wakes up next to Adela. Annoyed, Petronius orders Caius and Longinus to wash the latrines of the palace. From departure to Nazareth, Sula and John meet with Asisa and Matthew. Cornelius talks about the miracle done by Jesus. Iscariot admires the leadership of John the Baptist. Jairo praises Deborah's beauty. Helena and Salome are hidden in the kitchen of Almáquio. On the way to Nazareth, John and Sula meet Roman soldiers on the way. Arimathea does not notice Jairo giving up on his daughter. Almáquio is worried about the presence of Helena and Salome in his kitchen. Pilate pretends to bear Antipas. Claudia questions Herodíade's attitude of betraying Helena. In the temple, Malco warns that John the Baptist was beaten. Iscariot asks to be baptized by Batista. John the Baptist does not care what Quemuel told him and warns that Jesus is superior to any messenger of God. In Capernaum, Abner is followed by Satan. Jesus perceives the presence of evil in the place. Simon says goodbye to Laila and warns that an enlightened Man is in town. Matthew goes out to see the Messiah. André looks for Mateus, his brother. Sara and Gabriela warn him that he is not. Jesus reaches the synagogue and is observed by all. Sula says she needs to go home and say goodbye to Maria. Petronius advises Helena. Joan tells Claudia about the beating Batista took. Herodíade tries to disguise the discomfort. Helio sees that Batista is already better. Barabbas says he will warn the rebels about the beatings they got in Batista. Arimathea allows Deborah to leave home alone. Caius and Longinus clean the latrines of the fortress. Pilate says that Antipas can leave after the chariot race. Matthew feels touched by the words of Jesus. André finds Peter again and tells him that he knew the Messiah. Distraught by Satan, Abner steals a knife at Asisa's house and attacks Gabriela, but ends up releasing the girl. Salomé, Deborah and Helena meet in the kitchen of Almáquio.
