The childminder accidentally reverses George's car into a lamp-post. When the boys notice the damage she feigns innocence, so they jump to the conclusion that Malcolm must be to blame. For lack of an alternative Nina is forced to go along with this as the whole family accuses the poet of wilful damage to their car. Realising the repercussions of her deceit, Nina resolves to come clean and sets in chain of events that threatens her continued tenure within the household.
