Melissa Etheridge

S6 E1 Melissa Etheridge

One of the highlights of this presentation of ""MTV Unplugged"" with Grammy award-winning artist Melissa Etheridge is a surprise appearance by Bruce Springsteen who joins Etheridge for one song. The two perform Springsteen's ""Thunder Road."" Alone on stage with her acoustic guitar, Etheridge rocks the house with a medley of her material, past and present, including her hit single ""Come To My Window,"" which garnered Etheridge a Grammy at the 37th annual Grammy Awards for best female rock vocalist. An excerpt from the MTV Unplugged book....""Before any taping, it's important to sit down with an artist and determine just what they hope to accomplish with their set....For Melissa's summit, it was one power lunch - if you can call eating at the MTV cafeteria a power lunch. We simply got our trays, stood in line, and then hashed out all the details at a school lunchroom-style table. We knew then just how unpretentious her Unplugged would end up being."" An excerpt from the MTV Unplugged book...""Offstage, however, preparation was smoother than anyone could have hoped. During rehearsals, Courtney and Madonna (who originally tried to enlist Hole for her record label, Maverick) met for the first time. Not to mention the added dimension of having Drew Barrymore (who dates Hole guitarist Eric Erlandson) and her friend Patricia Arquette in the studio for the taping. It was the most Hollywood presence we'd had since Al Pacino."" Set Li

An excerpt from the MTV Unplugged book...""The strength of The Cranberries is firmly rooted in the power of Dolores O'Riordan's voice. It is an instrument that can be beautiful and whisper-soft at one moment and then suddenly have the piercing power of a bagpipe. Unplugged was therefore an excellent setting for the band and a very special opportunity to hear a voice with so much range in an intimate setting. A string section comprised of violins and guita
