What a shame. Bioware was running a marathon and it feels like they stop running at kilometers 40.
Played more than 18 months after release, so they had plenty of time to patch things up. And still, the game needs more polish. Andromeda is like a book with spelling mistakes, missing punctuation on almost each page... plus a few missing pages too.
- some loading problems (often takes too long, it would be as fast to ALT+F4 the game and restart it)
- Enemies freeze in the middle of a fight (seldom).
- few crashes. Sometimes when starting a conversation (it never starts and you are stuck there, can't move and nothing happens)
- some facial expressions need more work, especially the original Sara's. Might be better on the older mass effects. Though things felt a lot better after changing Sara's appearance. There were still some WEIRD-ASS face expression from time to time.
- stuff floating (like a mountain...), weird animations
- stuff appearing when using the scan (with a physical body that you can climb) but disappear as soon as you turn off the scan (one occurence)
- unable to pick up a chest, though it appears on the map but the container is inactive.
- In general, items are too common, it's supposed to be in a time where resources and stuff are in limited supply, though you never feel that way. Which makes crafting a lot less exciting.
- Planet exploration could be more interesting, maybe missions should be able to start when you are on the spot even if you didn't talk to that NPC to get the quest. You often find empty enemy camp/bases, which is always odd. And then they fill up after you talked to that one NPC.
- I don't give a damn about that multiplayer. Next time make sure you're solo game is finished before starting to make something nobody asked for.
- casual conversations often get mixed with other audio messages (missions or SAM voice). Also when using fast-travel a conversation between your teammates starts in its middle. dialogues get cut mid-sentences by other dialogues. super annoying.
- that ridiculous krogan fist fight ...
- Too many skill points/ level up too easy. On one hand you get to try every kind of fighting (tech/biotic/guns), maybe some people like it, I would have preferred if skill points were more valuable even if it meant that I could not possibly try every kind of power in one play through.
- where is the cut-scene for new outpost 2-3-4 ? It feels too brutal the way it is.
- the obvious unfinished plant/medicine quest on Kadara
- characters at 2 places at the same time (planet + nexus)
- 2 characters at the exact same place at the same time during a cut-scene, they merge together !
- twice or three times, a shuttle flew right through a mountain. The most stupid part is that it was during a "press ALT to watch" moment...
- game sound completely disappeared on day. I was at 95% of the game. Windows had a small update the night before. Everything works on my PC but not the sound for Mass Effect Andromeda... Uninstalled and reinstall . 50Go, fortunately I have a good internet speed. Still took me 3 hours... for no result. I don't know how I finally managed to have the sound back. Don't understood it at all. Sure pissed me off.
-too many go fetch quest ?
-On original mass effect, "quests" never felt like quests because they were backed by story. It was smoother.
The core-game is still good, but fans expected better after 3 great Mass Effect games. It definitely deserved more work. I bought it at -80% at about 5 euros, the game is surely worth that. But at full price I understand the grudge, especially at version 1.0. (I played 1.10).
+ EA/Origin crap, technical bugs and problems which were and still are. Also had technical problems on another bioware game (dragon age), Seems they are not really good at keeping their game bug free, even on the long run. Feels like Bethesda ?
Andromeda needed 6-12 extra months of work for polish and we would have not a "good" but surely a "great" game ! What a shame.
Loved the effect of light/darkness when entering a cave or getting out of one. But sometimes it turns on when coming back from the menu on the desert planet, which blinds me for a few seconds.
- the errand missions for the movie night cut-scene are ridiculous (because so numerous), but I liked it.
- felt guilt/sadness, some scenes/dialogues made me laugh
- love that black widow sniper
-100+ hours of game ! That's almost as much as the 3 other mass effects together.
Even with all its problem, I still liked it. I would give 9/10 to the core game. But in its condition with its technical problems, beta+ feeling. 15/20.
