La mélancolie et les fantômes sont toujours là, mais tout cela sonne plus calibré que sur le premier essai, moins direct sans être plus cérébral, installant une sorte de fausse naïveté artificiellement entretenue. Au final The XX fait ce qu'on attendait eux, ni plus ni moins, déroulant sa partition sans s'en éloigner. On regrette un peu que le groupe n'ait pas innové davantage en imaginant ce qu'aurait pu être un disque plus audacieux dans lequel il aurait vraiment lâché la bride de son manitou expérimentateur Jamie XX."
