S1 E1 • The Request

Dr. Paul van der Voort announces his retirement and will choose either Jan vd Woude or Eric Koning to replace him for the time being. Nurse Nelleke is pregnant, which reminds head nurse Reini that it's too late for her to have children. An elderly patient , Mrs Oudenaar, asks the medical staff to let her die peacefully.

Nelle tries to reunite Mr Kruiswijk, who is going blind, with his estranged son Johan. Elderly Mrs. Groen can't stand her roommate, the glutton Katrien Wolverton. Herman is dating Suzanne, but still tries to make Jan jealous.

Susan becomes very on edge when her father is brought into MCW. Eric is blackmailing Simon with knowledge of his addiction. Nelleke is fascinated by an ex-trapeze artist patient.

When family man Gerrit Hiemstra is taken in with a venereal he admits to being bi-sexual. Suzanne wants her father to turn himself in on account of incest. Eric releases Katrien Wolverton, who promptly starts hyperventilating.

Dick van Lennep doesn't trust Simon Neerings as a surgeon anymore but Liza stands up for Simon. Suzanne agrees to profession help. Reini gets feels attracted to the victim of a car accident, Robert Jansen.

Eric diagnoses a young mother of three as a hypochondriac, but Jan thinks there might be something else going on. Director Walter de Bak and Dick prefer Eric to replace Paul instead of his preferred choice, Jan.

Robert tells Reini he will drop his suit against MCW if she joins him in traveling round the World. Ingrid however no longer wants to go on holiday with Herman. Eric, sure of becoming Paul's replacement, asks Irene out to dinner. Paul's former lover Merel is taken into the hospital.

Paul van der Voort learns he has a 25 year old son with Merel but doesn't dare tell his wife Agnes. Eric's wife Linda accuses him of not paying any attention to their ill son Jeroen.

Paul meets his son Joost and Joost's mother Merel meets Paul's wife Agnes. Jan's school friend Alex is having heart problems. Jan suspects it has less to do with his work than with his down syndrome son.

Paul van der Voort has decided to stay on for a while longer. Simon has fallen in love with Liza, but she doesn't want to leave her husband Peter. Two young men are brought in after fighting over which one of them is the father of a soon to be born baby. Nelleke goes into early labor.
