Critique :

''Greatest Love of All'' a été écrite par Michael Masser et la regrettée Linda Creed, qui l'a composée pendant son combat contre le cancer du sein.

La chanson a été initialement composée par George Benson en 1977 pour le biopic de Muhammad Ali, ''The Greatest''.

Whitney l'a reprise pour son premier album éponyme, sorti en 1985.

À l'origine, Clive Davis ne souhaitait pas que Whitney l'enregistre, mais il a finalement cédé sous la pression de Michael Masser et de l'artiste.

Le titre a connu un succès fulgurant, se classant numéro un des charts Billboard Hot 100, Hot Black Singles et Adult Contemporary en 1986. Il a également dominé les classements en Australie et au Canada.

Il a été certifié disque d'or aux États-Unis et au Canada, et disque d'argent au Royaume-Uni.

''Greatest Love of All'' a remporté l'American Music Award du ''Meilleur clip Soul/R&B''. Il a également été nominé aux Grammy Awards dans la catégorie « Enregistrement de l'année » et aux Soul Train Music Awards dans la catégorie ''Single de l'année''.

Et en 2016, cette chanson a été chantée par Sandra Hüller dans le film "Toni Erdmann" de Maren Ade.
