Vu sur ARTE, revu en salle à l'occasion de la rétrospective C.Petzold à Premiers Plans 2022.
Classic lusty and money hungry two male-one female scheme.
While the script is quite effective and offers a few twists on the formula (for example, while the husband and employer is as paranoid as expected from the role, he's also offering a bit more), it is more than lacking in the "love" (physical passion actually) that sparks out of nowhere between wife and employee and relies on a non existing chemistry between Hoss and Fuhrmann (that already showed itself in Wolfsburg). On the other hand, it makes the "lovers" seem far more interested in the money their enterprise can bring them, an interesting way to go against the previous versions.
Successful enough as entertainment, it gains some weight as a look on Germany. (And reportedly even works as an image of post-reunion Germany, as Petzold movies often try to tell something more through their apparently banal stories.)
Score: 6,5/10
Enjoyment: 4/5
I don't mind VHS band/pellicule artifacts due to old age, but it's a 2008 film, and watching it in this state on the big screen, moreover with a yellowish taint on most of the pictures, was annoying. (That and some other things.)
