Vu en Fuori Orario, "À travers le miroir: Truffaut vs. Hitchcock".
I have never been as uncomfortable in front of a film than when I was watching Une partie de plaisir. Watching the Gégauff play a more or less imaginary version of the collapse of their family, and more particularly seeing M.Gégauff exposing his humiliating deprecating ways and his thoughts, his desire to possess people etc, in short showing himself so naked and ugly (sometimes in front of their child, even if the sound was certainly recorded later), made me feel increasingly sick until... the end.
The story is told through a few snapshots going through what feels like months (or years).
As for the film itself, Chabrol seemed pretty quiet for most of it, aside from recurring motifs and a nice photography. Maybe because it is first and foremost Gégauff's show.
Score: 6/10
Enjoyment: -5/5
Unsure why the film was chosen in a selection tying Nouvelle Vague and Hitchcock. Because of Mr & Mrs Smith?
PS: Paul Gégauff's voice is as bewitching as Danièle's eyes. Too bad the dub looks off.
