Tu sais ce que je veux faire quand je serai grand ? Je veux raconter aux gens des choses qu'ils savent pas. Leur montrer des choses qu'ils ont jamais vues. Ce sera tellement bien ! Peut-être qu'un jour je trouverai où tu es partie. Si je te trouve, est-ce que je peux le dire aux autres ? Est-ce que je peux les emmener te voir ? Mamie, tu me manques beaucoup. Surtout quand je vois mon nouveau cousin qui a toujours pas de nom. Ça me fait penser à quand tu disais que tu te sentais vieille. J'ai envie de lui dire... moi aussi, je me sens vieux. »

« Ce matin tu dormais encore à mon réveil. Peu à peu, émergeant du sommeil, j’ai senti ton souffle et à travers tes cheveux qui te cachaient le visage, j’ai vu tes yeux clos et j’ai eu la gorge serrée. J’avais envie de crier, de te réveiller, mais ta fatigue était trop profonde, trop mortelle. Dans la pénombre tes bras et ta gorge brillaient. Ta peau était tiède et lisse. Je voulais y poser les lèvres, mais l’idée de troubler ton sommeil et de t’avoir dans mes bras éveillée, m’en empêchait. Je préférais t’avoir ainsi, comme un objet qu’on ne pouvait me prendre, que moi seul possédais. Ton image pour toujours. Par-delà ton visage, je voyais quelque chose de plus pur, de plus profond, où je me reflétais. Je voyais en toi une dimension qui incluait la vie entière, les années à venir, et celles avant de te connaître, mais qui t’attendaient déjà. C’était le petit miracle d’un réveil : sentir pour la première fois que tu étais avec moi… pas seulement à ce moment, et que la nuit se prolongeait à tes côtés, dans la chaleur de ton sang, de tes pensées, de ta volonté qui se confondait avec la mienne. A cet instant, je compris combien je t’aimais Lidia. Ce fut une sensation si étrange que j’en avais les larmes aux yeux. Je pensais que ça ne finirait jamais, que toute notre vie serait pareille à ce réveil. Te sentir non pas à moi, mais faisant partie de moi. Chose respirant avec moi que rien ne détruirait, sinon la trouble indifférence de l’habitude. La seule menace selon moi. Et puis, tu t’es réveillée, souriant encore dans le sommeil. Tu m’a embrassé. J’ai senti que je n’avais rien à craindre, que nous serions toujours ainsi, unis par quelque chose de plus fort que le temps et l’habitude. »
