Critique :

Le deuxième single et titre éponyme de son septième album solo, Bad, est le premier à bénéficier d'un clip révélant un style musical et chorégraphique plus agressif et incisif, sans oublier le nouveau look de Michael.

Initialement prévu pour inclure Prince dans la chanson et le clip, ce dernier a finalement été confié à un Wesley Snipes alors inconnu.

Le clip s'inspire de l'histoire d'Edmund Perry, jeune diplômé de la Phillips Exeter Academy tué en 1985 par un policier en civil à Manhattan. Écrit par Richard Price et réalisé par le légendaire cinéaste Martin Scorsese (qui collaboraient alors sur La Couleur de l'argent), il puise également son inspiration dans West Side Story, déjà présent dans certaines œuvres précédentes de Michael.

Même le manager d'Eddie Murphy a eu vent du projet.
