Critique :

"Breakdown" est le troisième single extrait de Butterfly (1997), le cinquième album studio de Mariah Carey.

En raison des règles de Billboard en vigueur à l'époque, 'Breakdown' n'a pas pu figurer dans le classement officiel Hot 100, mais a atteint la 53e place du classement Billboard Hot 100 Airplay et la 41e place du classement R&B.

Bien que n'ayant pas connu un grand succès commercial, ''Breakdown'' reste l'une des chansons les plus sous-estimées et appréciées des fans de Mariah, au même titre que ''Underneath the Stars'' et ''Bliss''.
