Critique :

''Brooklyn Baby'' est le quatrième single extrait du troisième album studio de Lana Del Rey, Ultraviolence. À l'image de la plupart de ses chansons, il est empreint de nostalgie pour une époque révolue de l'histoire américaine.

Comme ''National Anthem'', ''Brooklyn Baby'' semble être en partie, voire entièrement, satirique, selon l'interprétation de Rolling Stone. La chanson décrit une jeune fille branchée qui se vante de son petit ami musicien, de sa collection de jazz rare et de sa culture hydroponique de cannabis, semblant à la fois tourner en dérision et célébrer ces préoccupations typiquement « brooklynoises ».

Le morceau a été écrit par Lana Del Rey et son ex-petit ami, Barrie-James O'Neill.

Dans une interview accordée au Guardian, Del Rey a confié qu'elle devait initialement enregistrer la chanson avec Lou Reed du Velvet Underground, mais que ce dernier est décédé le jour même de l'enregistrement prévu.

J'ai pris un vol de nuit, j'ai atterri à 7 heures du matin… et deux minutes plus tard, il était mort.
