Critique :

''Doin' Time'' de Lana Del Rey est une reprise de la chanson éponyme du groupe américain Sublime, sortie en 1996, qui est elle-même une reprise de Summertime, tirée de l'opéra Porgy & Bess.

Comme l'explique John Janick, PDG d'Interscope, Del Rey a finalement réalisé cette reprise car le label "était impliqué dans la production exécutive du documentaire… et Lana exprimait sa grande fan". Après l'enregistrement du morceau, "elle a trouvé qu'il correspondait à l'esthétique " de son prochain album, Norman Fucking Rockwell!, et a décidé de l'inclure dans la liste des titres.

Pour promouvoir NFR!, un clip vidéo réalisé par Rich Lee a été mis en ligne sur la chaîne YouTube de Lana le 29 août, la veille de la sortie de l'album.

Le 7 mai 2019, suite aux spéculations des fans sur la chanson, Del Rey a confirmé sa sortie prochaine en publiant un extrait sur ses réseaux sociaux.

Dix jours plus tard, après la sortie de la chanson, Lana s'est rendue sur les réseaux sociaux pour partager la bande-annonce du documentaire Sublime, dans lequel elle présentait sa reprise.
