Critique :

"It’s Like That" reprend le refrain de "Hollis Crew" (1984) et "Here We Go" (1983) de Run-DMC. Ce titre a été choisi par le producteur L.A. Reid comme premier single de l’album du grand retour de Mariah, The Emancipation of Mimi (2005). L’atmosphère de la chanson est empreinte de libération du stress et de l’amertume, autrement dit, d’« émancipation ».

Quelques mois avant la sortie de l’album, Mariah a publié le message suivant sur son site web, adressé à ses fans (qu’elle surnomme affectueusement ses « agneaux ») :

Pour la première fois de ma vie, je me sens libre et fière d’être moi-même. Je célèbre le fait d’être devenue une personne et une artiste qui ne se sent plus prisonnière de ses insécurités… Je peux maintenant dire en toute honnêteté : “Voilà qui je suis, la vraie moi, à prendre ou à laisser.”

"It’s Like That" a atteint la 16e place du Billboard Hot 100 et la 17e place du classement R&B de Billboard. Le titre a également été certifié disque d’or.
