''Scream'' était le premier single extrait du neuvième album studio de Michael Jackson, HIStory, Past, Present and Future, Book 1. Sorti le 31 mai 1995, ce duo entre Michael et sa sœur cadette Janet a connu un succès planétaire. Le morceau a été écrit, composé et produit par Jimmy Jam et Terry Lewis en collaboration avec les deux Jackson.
''Scream'' est un titre énergique et percutant, mélangeant dance-pop, new jack swing et R&B. Les paroles constituent une réponse véhémente à la couverture médiatique sensationnaliste des accusations d'abus sexuels sur mineurs portées contre Michael Jackson en 1993.
Le single, porté par le clip iconique (et à l'époque le plus coûteux) de Mark Romanek, a été un véritable phénomène mondial.
