''Thriller'', célèbre pour son clip (et sa chorégraphie) sans doute parmi les plus emblématiques de la pop culture, est le septième et dernier single extrait de l'album Thriller de Michael Jackson.

Composée par Rod Temperton, la chanson s'intitulait initialement ''Starlight''. Son titre a été changé en « Thriller » et les paroles réécrites peu avant le réenregistrement. Rod avait d'abord proposé le morceau à son groupe, Heatwave, mais celui-ci l'avait refusé.

À l'origine, ma démo de ''Thriller'' s'appelait ''Starlight''. Quincy m'a dit : ''Tu as réussi à trouver un titre pour le dernier album, vois ce que tu peux faire pour celui-ci. '' J'ai répondu : ''Super !'' Alors je suis retourné à l'hôtel, j'ai écrit deux ou trois cents titres, et j'ai trouvé « Midnight Man ». Le lendemain matin, je me suis réveillé et j'ai juste prononcé ce mot… Quelque chose dans ma tête m'a dit que c'était le titre. On pouvait l'imaginer en tête des charts Billboard. On voyait déjà le merchandising autour de ce seul mot, comment il sautait aux yeux comme ''Thriller''.

''Thriller'' fut un autre succès international, se hissant en tête des classements pop en Belgique, en France, au Portugal et en Espagne, et atteignant la 4e place du Billboard Hot 100 américain et la 3e place du classement R&B. Le single est certifié disque de diamant aux États-Unis avec plus de 10 millions d'exemplaires vendus et a également obtenu plusieurs disques de platine en Australie et au Mexique. Le clip novateur de ''Thriller'' a été désigné par MTV comme le meilleur clip jamais réalisé et a été inscrit au Registre national du film de la Bibliothèque du Congrès en 2009.

''Thriller'' est la chanson la plus fortement associée à la fête d'Halloween et réintègre souvent le classement pop du Billboard Hot 100 chaque année à cette période. C'est l'une des deux seules chansons à figurer dans les classements chaque année grâce à une fête, l'autre étant ''All I Want For Christmas is You'' de Mariah Carey.
