Although this was not one of the most popular mystery series of 2024, it deserved more recognition than it received. I feel like it lost a lot of attention because it came out so close to True Detective Night Country, and there are some overlaps within plot lines and indigenous/First Nations identity.
This is not the type of thriller that's constantly keeping you on your toes with jump scares, but provides entertainment through a solid dialogue and plot. The screenplay does a good job at looking at a murder mystery through the lens of immigrants trying to mesh with the western world.
My biggest critique is Lily Gladstone's character was very two-dimensional. Given how complicated her life was (and what she discovered), I was expecting more from her.
