Some very good or fun editing ideas, like the car driving jokes, and a few well placed wordplays or nonsensical dialogues don't make this certainly difficult exercise (a somewhat admirable achievement) a good film. After all, it tries to entertain through humour but has little ideas in this domain to maintain interest for over an hour. Weird voices, high stupidity, homosexuality, sex and digestive jokes (none "bad" but few actually funny) répétition gags (that All the President's men running scene got me the 3rd time) and so on can only do so much.
The Citizen Kane template (heavly relying on the aforementioned movie) does the trick, but more thinking could have been allotted to the "intrigue" to make the 70mn more digestible.
Add some nostalgic value because of the dubbing actors.
Score: 4/10 (+2)
Enjoyment: 3/5
As it would later be the case for his actual movies, Hazanavicius shows great craft with an inability to manage his humour aspirations on a long duration. But would he ever be that funny again?
Difficile de croire au culte érigé autour de cette vidéo depuis une quinzaine d'années quand on a vu le truc à l'époque exciter seulement deux gamins dans la cour de récré.
