Aladdin : The Making of an Animated Film

Résumé : On the screen, the Genie, in the space of a few dizzy seconds, transforms himself from a cubist caricature of Arnold Schwarzenegger, into a ventriloquist, into a chorus of Genies, into a Genie imitating Ed Sullivan and Groucho Marx. Back in the studio, the writers and directors wrote and rewrote the dialogue and encouraged the voice of the Genie to ad lib lines ; the animator in charge of the character integrated the distinctive curves of Arabic writing into the shape of the Genie ; "clean up" artists drew over the animator's rough sketches to produce the clean, consistent, and elegant lines necessary for the finished film ; the special effects department added the swirls of smoke that come out of the lamp ; and dozens of meetings took place to share the visions and ideas that the writers, animators, directors, and producers all had for this scene. From story development to casting problems, from the breathtaking new computerized effects to that moment of magic when a character comes together and comes to life, this is a fascinating look at the animation process from the inside in the course of making an extraordinary feature film.
