Richelieu

The historical incident depicted in 'Richelieu' is centred in the conspiracy of Cinq Mars. French history of the period, since the murder of Henry IV., would seem to be occupied with an almost unbroken chain of conspiracies. Richelieu, during his eighteen years of power, was certainly never free from them -if not in promoting, combating them. Even Louis XIII., who gave Richelieu his power, was involved, as the story shows us, in the affair of Cinq Mars which aimed at destroying it... Voir plus
