Critique :

''Dirty Diana'' est le cinquième single (et le cinquième titre numéro un) extrait de l'album « Bad » de Michael Jackson, sorti en 1987. Il y aborde le problème des groupies de manière plus agressive et percutante que dans « Billie Jean », avec un riff de guitare incisif à la ''Beat It'' (avec le guitariste Steve Stevens).

À propos de cette chanson, Michael Jackson a déclaré lors d'une interview en 1987 :

J'adore Dirty Diana, c'est un de mes albums préférés. C'est l'histoire d'une groupie – je déteste dire ce mot, mais c'est bien de ça qu'il s'agit – et c'est quelque chose que j'ai vécu, et que beaucoup de gens qui grandissent sur la route vivent aussi.

Lors d'un concert à Wembley en 1988, pendant sa tournée mondiale Bad World Tour, Michael a retiré ce morceau de la setlist par respect pour la princesse Diana. On pensait initialement qu'il n'avait pas été interprété ce soir-là, mais il a en réalité été réintégré peu après avoir appris qu'il s'agissait d'une de ses chansons préférées.

The Weeknd a repris ce titre sur sa mixtape Echoes of Silence, sortie en 2011.
