Season 2: a season of missed opportunities.
It was still mostly enjoyable (though I did skip some parts by the end). But there were so many missed opportunities, half-assed ideas, underused characters. It felt lazy and disappointing. In no particular orders (all spoilers):
- the vision about Enid dying falls so flat. If it was to set up the switcheroo episodes, it feels very forced. The vision changes finally to an Addams for no good reasons, the 'deaths' are absolutely not connected.
- Françoise: so uninteresting. Her dynamics with Tyler should have been explored so much more. The joy of finding his mother back, and yet it switching to a master/hyde dynamics should have been slow. Tyler should have slowly gone from happy to disillusioned. Tyler has almost no meaningful dialogue in the second part.
- Slurp/Tyler's uncle/mad scientist: I'm sorry, I don't give a shit about his story line. His as a zombie was kinda fun, but once he was reunited with his sister, I couldn't care less. And he was taking time away from characters I actually cared about.
- you can not cast Billie Piper and give her so little to do. That's criminal.
Now on top of missed opportunities, there are just bad storylines:
- So Morticia and Gomez killed another person in self-defence in high school, and were once more scared of accused for no good reason? So contrived.
- The new principal, cult thing: the reveal was so jarring. That's the part I skipped by the end of it. The climax at the dance? What was this? So underwhelming. Also, what was Wednesday's contribution again?
- Is Wednesday actually instrumental in anything in this season? For as a smart as she is supposed to be, the only that happens if she doesn't intervene: no one gets released from the institution, and later on, there would be one less Hyde. Write her better. I know she makes mistakes. She should get some wins sometimes too.
- The female Hyde thing? last season, nobody knew about hydes. now everybody knows, and the master thing becomes anything the writers need it to be.
- Enid with Ajax in the first part. Having changed and not liking Ajax any more is fine. Ghosting him, cheating on him: not okay. And she should have been called out on it. Ajax should not have come back the way he did. She should have at least apologised. As a story, it's fine that she was a dick. But it needs to be acknowledged as such.
