Les trois rages de la femme
« I don’t need a book to know about myself », clame Annette Bening à son fils, qui vient de lui citer un extrait d’un ouvrage féministe aussi poétique que convaincant. Cette réplique, un peu...

As feminism is growing, so are the films wanting to depict it. While people talked themselves warm about Wonder Woman, praising it for showing little girls that women can be protagonist super heroes too without resulting to objectification, this film gives a much more realistic and sane expression of feminism. It doesn't get stuck in the pendulum swing of showing one extreme or the other, but offers different viewpoints from both men and womens perspective.
Here we see the "modern" feminist, trying to break out of social stigmas and dogmas through sometimes provoking actions. Heavy in books and theories and with passion for the cause.
We see the older "hidden" feminist. Not considering herself a feminist at all, even outright being against it, seeing it as some new age mumbo jumbo bringing peoples attention away from more important things. Yet being the independent, hard working and strong willed woman that feminism advocate for.
We see the young teenage girl. Unsure of her place in society, sexually liberated to the point were it almost doesn't mean anything anymore, yet not a tool for men but an individual who at least knows what she don't want and is not afraid of saying so and staying true to her word.
Reading this far might make most think that this film is an obvious depiction of feminism. But this is not true. It's flawlessly hidden within a young mans' coming of age story. It shows in a very realistic way how both men and women are affected and confused by the split between new and old ideas. And perhaps the best of all; it avoids the painful cliché of the traditional happy ending where everything works out as it's "supposed to", and gives room for a new, much more fresh and much more needed one.
Do see.

So the sound in this film is nothing less than fantastic. Never before have I've felt such tension just through sound. Clocks ticking, and an eerie sense of coming doom follows you throughout...
