The master Christopher Nolan at work on his masterpiece.
In every way, this film left me wondering what else there is for me to see in the world of cinema. I had never experienced, and will likely never experience again, such direction, photography and cinematography, especially on 70mm film. ????️
One hour later, I’m still deeply overwhelmed by the craftsmanship I was fortunate enough to witness.
The movie got me sinking deep in memories of studying the myth, in my own interpretations and feelings back then, literally and metaphorically, whilst observing the clever structure Nolan chose to unpack such a monument of a myth in a 3 hour-movie.
Only regret that I have is the time constraint not to build the characters enough and which made him choose the epic > psychic side at times.
And once again, Ludwig Göransson’s justesse (pardon my French) in sonically translating the visuals so earthy, metallic, and ancient and at times disarmingly human, highlighting the accents of the movie without overpowering the story, leaving sensory and visual space for the wrath of the psyche and the gods. This surely didn’t need an orchestra but rather a minimalistic score, and I’m glad they took this direction.
A true journey about us mortals, in all our beauty and flaws. I will definitely attend another screening to humbly cry once more.
