Restauration revue sur ARTE, cycle (en ligne) Istvan Szabo.
A realistic take on Faust, set in Germany under the raise of National Socialism, concentrating the two figures of the classic tale into a single character, an actor dreaming of recognition and able to sell his soul and lie to himself, wearing one mask after another: a regular german ("I'm only an actor.") trying to pursue his life in those terrible times, no matter what, including compromising himself with nazism.
This empty hero allows Brandauer to impress but also to sometimes exhaust the audience, with the various facets he gets to play through this elliptical film that never feels 130mn long.
